Academic Programs Analysis and Boundary Study Information Sessions Coming Soon

Starting next week, Montgomery County Public Schools will be hosting a variety of information sessions to learn more about what Academic Programs Analysis and Boundary Studies mean for you and your family.

Why is this important?
These two efforts—the academic program analysis and boundary studies—are part of MCPS’ broader commitment to make sure every student has access to the resources and opportunities they need to thrive. From our 2025–2030 MCPS Strategic Plan to our budget priorities for operations, facilities and staffing, and through the policies, regulations and guidelines that shape daily school life, MCPS is aligning its work so that students are safe, supported, challenged and prepared for their future. Whether it’s expanding access to rigorous programs, balancing enrollment across schools or providing direct school-focused supports, we are focused on doing our best work to make MCPS—and our students—MCPS Future Ready.

Academic Programs Analysis

What we’re doing: MCPS is designing a regional model of its academic programs to expand access so that more students, in more parts of the county, can participate in strong programs closer to home. Our goal is to achieve excellence and equity. By expanding regionally, we can reduce barriers such as distance and limited space, while maintaining the rigor and strength of existing programs. The Board of Education is expected to take final action in December 2025.

Why it matters: MCPS is conducting a districtwide analysis of academic programs to ensure that all students have access to high-quality opportunities. The goal is to align programs with student interests, community needs, industry demands and the effective use of resources. Read more.

Boundary Studies

What we’re doing: You spoke; we listened. Make plans to attend a boundary study option meeting in October. During public information meetings for the reopening of Charles W. Woodward High School, the opening of Crown High School and the expansion of Damascus High School, the community will learn more about refined boundary options for the 2027-2028 school year, including accompanying maps, articulation patterns, data tables and an interactive map tool. MCPS will also share surveys for each boundary study so that attendees can continue to provide meaningful feedback.

Why it matters: The reopening of Woodward High School, the new Crown High School and the expansion of Damascus HS will help alleviate several overcrowded high schools in the study areas.

How to engage: There are numerous ways to engage. Join the information session that best fits your needs and schedule.
