Summer Employment Opening Soon for MCEA, SEIU Members
|
|
Fiscal Year 2027 summer employment opportunities will be accessible to Montgomery County Education Association (MCEA) and Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Local 500 members through MCPS Summer Employment Careers.
Interested employees should apply online at MCPS Careers and click on Summer Employment beginning Monday, March 16. Nonteaching opportunities can be found by selecting options available in the “Job Field” field.

Celebrating the Heart of Our Schools: Support Staff Honorees
|
|
MCPS and SEIU Local 500 launched the Support Services Excellence Award this year, honoring full-time supporting services employees who exemplify excellence, commitment and service to their schools and offices. These outstanding support professionals work in our schools, offices, bus depots, warehouses, production facilities and service centers.
Eligible employees must be full-time and have served at their current worksite for at least two years, and embody MCPS core values through their dedication and service to their school or office community.

Lace Up for a Cause: Superintendent’s Shuffle Coming April 11
|
|
Mark your calendars and lace up your sneakers! The first-ever Superintendent’s Shuffle is coming to Bohrer Park on Saturday, April 11.
Join us for a morning of community, movement and purpose as we support the MCPS Educational Foundation and its Dine with Dignity Campaign. Funds raised from this event will help us reach our $80,000 event goal — contributing to the campaign’s overall $500,000 effort to eliminate student meal debt.
Registration starts at $30 and includes a race bib, T-shirt and access to event-day activities. From a competitive 5K to a family-friendly fun run, there’s something for everyone.

Kindergarten, Prek and Head Start Now Enrolling
|
|
For the 2026-2027 school year, registration for kindergarten, prekindergarten and Head Start are underway.
Kindergarten registration is being held online through the ParentVUE portal. Children who will be 5 years old by Sept. 1, 2026 are eligible. If your family is new to MCPS, you will need to create a ParentVue account here. After creating an account, you will be prompted to register when you first log in. Registration sessions will be held in person beginning Monday, March 16.
Prekindergarten and Head Start registration is also happening online or in-person at community locations during March. Families may also visit the Prekindergarten/Head Start office at 4910 Macon Road in Rockville, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Free prekindergarten is available to income-eligible families with children who will be 3 or 4 years old by Sept. 1, 2026.

Lunar New Year Banquet Raises More than $17,000 for Student Scholarships
|
|
The League of Educators for Asian American Progress (LEAAP) raised more than $17,000 during its annual Lunar New Year scholarship banquet on Feb. 26. This money will fund scholarships for Asian Pacific American high school seniors interested in pursuing careers in education.
The celebration featured a performance by the Hung Ci Lion Dance Troupe, and remarks from Kyle Lao, a former LEAAP scholarship recipient and now an educator at Poolesville High School, who reflected on the importance of supporting future educators

Transfer Season Underway, Closes April 7

From Student Art to Real-Life Saves: Get CPR/AED Certified
|
|
Last month, MCPS students were recognized during a special reception honoring the “Tree of Life: Every Beat Matters” AED Art Contest & Scholarship, hosted by Rescue One. See the winners.
Free CPR/AED and first aid training are available to all MCPS employees. In compliance with state requirements, all MCPS schools must have at least two full-time school employees (not health room employees) certified in first aid and CPR/AED through the American Heart Association, American Red Cross or National Safety Council.
Trainings are offered throughout the year. Employees interested in becoming certified can contact Peter Park or visit the AED Program page.

Making Prom Possible for Every Student

Attending prom is a big milestone for high school students and Montgomery County Recreation is working to make that dream a reality. The department is collecting new and gently used dresses, suits, dry-cleaned shirts, shoes, ties and accessories for its annual Prom Couture Closet giveaway event. Donations are being accepted through Saturday, March 21, at the Marilyn J. Praisner Community Recreation Center, 14906 Old Columbia Pike in Burtonsville.
