Two Named Finalists for State Librarian Award |
|
Two media specialists are finalists for the 2026 Maryland School Librarian of the Year award, which honors a school librarian for exemplary service and outstanding achievements in the field of school library media. Alexandra Moses from Highland Elementary School and Daria Taylor from Clarksburg Elementary School are two of the top 10 finalists for the state recognition.
Laura Ellis of Wheaton High School and Melissa King of Flower Hill Elementary School, were also nominated for the award. The winner will be announced at the Maryland Association of School Librarians Conference in October.

Tune In to Board of Education Work Session June 4 |
|
The Board of Education will hold a work session on Thursday, June 4. The agenda includes action on the final adoption of the Fiscal Year 2027 Operating Budget. The Board also intends to discuss third quarter academic performance; athletics and Title IX; a review of outstanding Board resolutions and leveling up in 2026–2027 and beyond.

Upcoming Schedule Reminders |
|
Wednesday, June 17 is a full day of school for students. The last day of school is Thursday, June 18, and it is an early release day for K–12 students. Friday, June 19 is a systemwide closure; all MCPS schools and offices will be closed.
Final report cards will be available in ParentVue by Monday, June 29, and mailed home by Tuesday, June 30.

Clean Out, Give Back: Support Drive for Supplies |
|
As the school year quickly comes to a close, schools are asked to encourage students to clean out lockers, backpacks and desks, and donate usable school supplies to families as they prepare for the start of the next school year. Staff may also donate new or gently used school supplies.
The 25th annual Drive for Supplies distribution event will be held from 9 a.m.–2 p.m. on Friday, July 24 at Gaithersburg High School, 101 Education Blvd. in Gaithersburg.

Encourage Students to Take a Seat at the Table |

Students are encouraged to apply for the MCPS Advisory Committee on Communication and Community Engagement for the 2026–2027 school year. This is an opportunity to collaborate with district leaders, strengthen communication and community engagement efforts on key topics, and represent student voice on important issues impacting MCPS. Applications are due by noon on Friday, June 19. Apply.

- BOE Seeks Applicants for Ethics Panel: The appointment is for a three-year term beginning July 1, 2026. Applicants must submit a letter of interest and resumé or other supporting documentation by 5 p.m. on Friday, June 12.
- My Future Fairs: Families of Grade 7 students are invited to attend information sessions to learn more about high school options. Beginning in fall 2027, MCPS will launch a new Regional High School Model, expanding access to specialized programs across the county. Students may choose to apply to regional programs based on their interests. For more information, visit the High School Regional Programs webpage. Next sessions coming up June 8, 10, 11 and 15
- Upcoming Math Changes: Beginning next year, MCPS will implement a cluster model for mathematics instruction. Classes will be organized to reduce the broad range of instructional levels within a classroom, which will make it more manageable for teachers to plan instruction effectively, differentiate learning experiences, and provide timely support and enrichment for students. Discover a Restored Piece of Local Black History |
|
The Pleasant View Historical Site is holding a reopening celebration from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on Saturday, June 20, at 11810 Darnestown Road in Gaithersburg. Celebrate the reopening of this 158-year-old site and experience a piece of local Black history brought back to life. Join us in person to explore the newly restored schoolhouse, church and social hall — spaces that once served as the heart of this historic community. The keynote speaker will be former County Executive Isiah “Ike” Leggett.
