Honoring a Legacy of Service

Honoring a Legacy of Service

The Board of Education and Superintendent Dr. Thomas W. Taylor honored 659 retirees at the MCPS annual retirement recognition and reception on June 9 at Seneca Valley High School. Together, these retirees have contributed more than 16,500 years of service to MCPS!

Dozens of our employees have made MCPS more than a workplace; it has been their community for decades. More fun facts:

  • 157 retirees are leaving MCPS with 30 or more years of service.
  • 21 retirees have dedicated more than 40 years to MCPS.
  • Two retirees reached milestones so rare they deserve special recognition — Rita Sheare in the Placement and Assessment Services Unit is retiring after 52 years and Ruby Mills from John F. Kennedy High School is retiring after an astounding 55.2 years.
