A Message of Gratitude and Congratulations |
|
As the final bell rings on the 2025-2026 school year, our most important job is to celebrate. We made it!
To our students, and especially the remarkable Class of 2026: congratulations on reaching this milestone. This graduating class leaves behind a legacy of achievement that will be the example for those who follow. This class has excelled in academics, athletics, the arts, service, and leadership, raising the bar for future generations of MCPS students. The stories and successes of the Class of 2026 include:
- 12,937 number of graduates (as of June 17, 2026)
- $429,112,333 (nearly $430 million) in scholarships were earned for post-secondary education. Saving families money.
- 2,628 earned a seal of biliteracy
- 2,058,335 community service hours earned by all graduates
- 2,452 students participated in a dual enrollment program
- 399 students graduated with an Associate Degree
- 49,869 AP exams taken
- 5,014 IB exams taken
- 1,058 Average SAT score
- 8,899 students will be attending college (either for a four-year or two-year degree program)
These accomplishments and so much more will become part of the story we tell about what is possible when students are challenged, supported, inspired and the focus of our investments as a community for whatever the future holds.
These successes are the result of the team of educators, support staff, families, and community members who made them possible. Your commitment and partnership helped make this a successful school year and allowed us to take important steps in bringing the MCPS Future Ready vision to life. Thank you for choosing MCPS!
This year proved that when this community works together, our students succeed. This is the strength we will need to tackle the 2026-2027 school year so that our students continue to succeed.
We’ll see many of you at High School Summer School or our inaugural Ignite Middle School Academy. Also, if you need a meal over the summer you can visit over 100 locations across the district.
In the meantime, rest up. Recharge. Enjoy time with family and friends this summer and we will see you back in August.

MCPS Recognizes Longtime Employees |
|
According to Department of Employee and Retiree Services’ records, 3,372 employees are eligible for years of service recognition. These employees have worked from 10 years up to 55 years with MCPS! In all:
- 1,005 have 10 years of service with MCPS.
- 588 have 15 years.
- 815 have 20 years.
- 642 have 25 years.
- 226 have 30 years.
- 59 have 35 years.
- 17 have 40 years.
- 14 have 45 years.
- 4 have 50 years and 2 have 55 years.

Take the Next Step Toward School Leadership |
|
The University of Maryland, College Park is holding virtual information sessions to learn more about earning administrator certification online. Designed for current and aspiring educators interested in moving into school leadership roles, the sessions will provide information about program requirements, internship expectations and the application process. The final session will be held from 6:30-7:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 16.
The application deadline is Tuesday, Aug. 4. Learn more.

Summer Professional Learning Supports Special Education Success |
|
administrators, teachers and paraeducators throughout the summer. These sessions strengthen instructional practices and focus on inclusive education. The opportunities range from Introduction to Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) Services to Strategies for Success in General Education for Individuals with Autism. All trainings can be found on Professional Development Online (PDO).

Clean Out, Give Back: Support Drive for Supplies |
|
Clean out those desks, backpacks and lockers and donate to the 25th annual Drive for Supplies event! Staff may also donate new or gently used school supplies that are no longer needed.
The Drive for Supplies event will be from 9 a.m.–2 p.m. on Friday, July 24 at Gaithersburg High School, 101 Education Blvd. in Gaithersburg. Individual families, staff members and nonprofit organizations are also welcome to attend and pick up supplies during the event. Students can earn Service Learning hours for volunteering before and during the event.

Free Summer Meals Begin June 23 at More Than 100 MCPS Sites |
|
Thousands of Montgomery County children will receive nutritious meals as part of the MCPS Summer Food Service Program, which provides nutritious meals at no cost to children 18 years of age and under, and to people with disabilities who are over 18 years old. This summer, MCPS anticipates that over 12,000 students will receive meals at more than 100 sites.

Mark Your Calendars: Back-to-School Fairs Coming Aug. 22! |
|
MCPS will host six regional Back-to-School Fairs for the kickoff of the 2026–2027 school year on Saturday, Aug. 22.
The fairs will provide opportunities to directly connect with their schools; get help with ParentVue, Chromebooks and academic supports; learn about mental health, special education, multilingual services and transportation; participate in wellness screenings, get information on food and nutrition services and much more.
The fairs will be a wonderful opportunity for families to learn about the school system, county programs, after-school opportunities, family resources and a little fun! Fair locations and times are being finalized, so stay tuned for more information over the summer.

FY 2026–2027 Reclassification Study Requests Accepted Through Aug. 14 |
|
The Division of Human Resources and Talent Management has launched the Fiscal Year 2026–2027 reclassification study cycle, combining two study years to restore alignment with the seven-year review schedule. Directors and supervisors may submit requests for Supporting Services (SEIU), MCBOA and MCAAP positions by Friday, Aug. 14. Out-of-cycle requests and requests submitted by bargaining units, in accordance with Regulation GHA-RA, may also be considered.
Reclassification studies review significant changes in a position’s duties and responsibilities that may warrant a change in classification. Approved changes would be included in the FY 2029 budget cycle and take effect July 1, 2028. Visit the Classification webpage for details and required forms.
It’s important to note that:
- If a position is approved for a reclassification study, this does not mean it will be reclassified.
- Employees may not submit requests for their own positions.
- If a reclassification is approved, it is not a promotion.

Starting Aug. 1, 2026, Wellbeats will transition to LifeSpeak, an enhanced well-being platform with more personalized support, expanded wellness content, live expert webinars, and an updated mobile and web experience.

The Washington, D.C. Japanese American Citizens League and the MCPS elementary social studies team collaborated on a graphic novel examining the history and contributions of Japanese Americans. The novel recently won the 2026 Albert B. Corey Award from the American Association for State and Local History. The novel, “But Where Are You REALLY From?,” addresses the Japanese American experience of immigration and arrival; early work as laborers; the challenges of racism, wartime incarceration and military heroism; and anti-Asian hate.
