Superintendent Thomas Taylor, Board of Education members and association leadership visited schools and worksites paying tribute to its three Teacher of the Year finalists and eight SEIU Local 500 chapter award winners who will compete for this year’s Supporting Services Employee of the Year.

Pull Up a Chair: Student-Run Café Edison to Open on April 13 |
|
Café Edison, an in-school, student-run restaurant at Thomas Edison High School of Technology, will open for breakfast and lunch on weekdays on Monday, April 13 through Friday, May 15.
Breakfast is served at 8:40 a.m. and 9 a.m., and lunch at 12:05 p.m. and 12:20 p.m. Reservations are required and can be made by calling 240-740-2024 or emailing Hospitality and Tourism teacher Jason Potyk. Cash, check or Square payments are acceptable. The menu is available by scanning the QR code on the flyer.
Café Edison gives students an opportunity to gain valuable, real-world skills in a working restaurant. Students greet and seat guests. They also cook and serve the meals, bus the tables and handle restaurant clean up. Edison is located at 12501 Dalewood Drive in Silver Spring.

Lace Up for a Cause: Superintendent’s Shuffle Coming April 11 |

Mark your calendars and lace up your sneakers! The first-ever Superintendent’s Shuffle is coming to Bohrer Park on Saturday, April 11.
Join us for a morning of community and movement in support of the MCPS Educational Foundation’s Dine with Dignity Campaign to help eliminate student meal debt. Registration starts at $30 and includes a race bib, T-shirt and event-day activities.

New STEM and Arts Focus Featured at This Year’s National College Fair |
|
The annual Montgomery County National Association for College Admission Counseling National College Fair will be held on April 21-22, at the Adventist HealthCare Fieldhouse in Boyds. This free event will feature representatives from more than 250 colleges and universities, and provides resources to students and parents navigating the college admissions process.
New this year, the fair will feature colleges and universities with specialized programs in science, technology, engineering and mathematics, and performing and visual arts. The fair runs from 9:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. both days and is open to high school juniors attending with their schools. Juniors should register for the daytime field trip with their school’s College and Career Navigator.
The fair is also open to all high school students and their families from 6:30–8 p.m. on Tuesday, April 21. For more information, contact your school counselor or College and Career Navigator. The evening event includes the workshop: “The College Application Process: Timeline and Resources” in English and Spanish.
Adventist HealthCare Fieldhouse is located at 18031 Central Park Circle in Boyds.

Hundreds of Students Showcase Research at County History Day |

About 430 students from MCPS middle and high schools took part in the Montgomery County History Day competition on March 7 at Sligo Middle School. More than 180 people volunteered as judges to interview and score the students’ projects.

Five MCPS Schools Advance to Statewide 2026 MESA STEM Competition |
|
Lucy V. Barnsley Elementary School, Roberto W. Clemente Middle School, Hallie Wells Middle School, John F. Kennedy High School and Paint Branch High School will represent MCPS at the state finals of the Math, Engineering and Science Achievement (MESA) program on May 2. In partnership with the Applied Physics Lab at Johns Hopkins University, MESA supports students in grades 3-12 to spark their interest in STEM education and STEM careers.
