Maryland School Assessment and Adequate Yearly Progress, 2004


Results of the 2004 administration of the Maryland School Assessment (MSA) in reading and mathematics underscore the sustaining impact of systemic efforts to achieve the goals outlined in Our Call to Action: Pursuit of Excellence. While overall performance by MCPS students in Grades 3, 5, 8, and 10 on the MSA improved or was maintained in every grade, the performance of Grade 3 students reaffirms the findings of previous research studies and assessment results, which have indicated that this first group of students to have benefited by the Early Success Performance Plan initiatives are achieving at higher levels and closing the achievement gap between subgroups of students.
