The Work Behind the Welcome Back

It’s less than seven weeks before the first day of school (Tuesday, Aug. 25) and we have a lengthy list of tasks to accomplish before then!

  • Nearly 30 million square feet of schools will be cleaned, repaired and prepared for students and staff.
  • Three major school projects will be completed and celebrated with ribbon cuttings on Friday, Aug. 21:
    • Burtonsville Elementary School
    • JoAnn Leleck Elementary School at Broad Acres
    • Poolesville High School
  • More than 1,300 school buses will undergo inspections, maintenance, repairs and safety checks.
  • Construction, HVAC, roofing and maintenance projects will happen in buildings across the district.
  • Thousands of staff members will attend professional development trainings in all subject areas, student well-being, special education and more.
  • School master schedules, transportation routes and enrollment will be finalized and more than 155,000 students.
  • Publications, including the MCPS Student Code of Conduct, will be updated, printed and distributed.
  • Key operational systems, such as human resources, and employee pay and benefit systems, will be transitioned to a new fiscal year.

We look forward to seeing you again soon. We’ll be ready! View the photos.
