EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
A Automotive Service Worker1. Lubricates buses, automobiles, and trucks; fills gas tanks and services vehicles with oil and antifreeze; checks air pressure in tires; answers road calls of disabled vehicles, changes tires, charges batteries, and makes minor emergency repairs; makes shop repairs to damaged tires. 2. Replaces mufflers, tail pipes, hoses, light bulbs, windshield wipers and fan belts; steam cleans engines; assists mechanic in body and fender repair and paint work; applies stencils to vehicles. 3. Assists technicians with diagnosing and performing various repairs. 4. Helps with receiving, issuing, picking up and delivering parts and supplies. 5. Clean, sweep floors and remove trash as needed. Clean up spills in the shop, on the lot and other locations as needed.6. Performs related work as required.B Technician Apprentice To advance to the position of Technician Apprentice, grade 11, you must first obtain permanent status in the position of Automotive Service Worker. Then the following requirements must be achieved. 1. Pass the written and complete the hands on skills test at the required scores.2. Demonstrated the ability and willingness to diagnose problems and preform the proper repairs with minimal supervision. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES IN ADDITION TO THOSE OF THE AUTOMOTIVE SERVICE WORKER : 1. Performs general automotive repair work on buses, automobiles, trucks, tractors, and other vehicular equipment. Inspects, adjusts, and replaces/repairs necessary components and parts as needed. 2. Repairs and diagnoses problems on the cooling, fuel, and exhaust systems, diesel and gasoline engines, and a wide variety of electrical systems. 3. Completes front end alignments and repairs on steering and suspension systems. 4. Performs repairs on chassis units, brake systems, air and hydraulic, replaces clutches, standard and automatic transmissions, differential and steering units. 5. Road tests equipment to locate defects and to check repair work. 6. As directed, operates school bus or other automotive equipment. 7. Performs routine maintenance of shop equipment. 8. May be required to run road and service calls for disabled buses, maintenance trucks, etc. 9. Performs related work as required. 10. Straightens, repairs and/or replaces damaged doors, fenders, grills, bumpers, frames, cross members and other metal fixtures. 11. Performs related work as required.
