Winter Weather is Just Around the Corner: We’re Ready, Are You?

Dear MCPS Community,

It’s almost that time of year again! While we are still enjoying autumn leaves, winter weather will be knocking on our doors before we know it. From early morning snow assessments to midday adjustments, we want to make sure you know exactly what to expect when winter weather hits our area.

MCPS Color Code System

We know you need information quickly when winter storms strike. We use a color code system to communicate weather-related information with students, families and staff.

• Code Green Normal Operations
• Code Yellow Delayed Opening
• Code Blue Early Dismissal
• Code Orange Schools Closed/Offices Open
• Code Red School System Closed
• Code Purple Virtual Instruction Day

We encourage you to review our Weather One-Pager and Operating Status & Color Codes webpage to learn what each color code means for you and your family, understand how decisions are made and prepare your plan for winter weather.
