Board Meeting April 25
The Montgomery County Board of Education met Thursday, April 25. The Board approved updates to Policy IJA, School Counseling Programs and Services. Updates include:

Establishing a framework for student services offered at different levels that support the educational mission of MCPS.

Changing the name to Board Policy IJA, Social-Emotional and Mental Health Programming Services for Students.
Superintendent Search
The nationwide search for a new superintendent of MCPS is underway. The latest news includes:

The Superintendent Search Survey closes TODAY - this is your final opportunity to share your thoughts on the qualities and characteristics important for a superintendent and what goals and priorities should be the focus of an incoming superintendent.

The Board will consider all feedback gathered from the last month to create a leadership profile to guide them as they consider candidates.

Search firm Greenwood Asher & Associates, LLC has begun advertising the position and actively recruiting candidates.
Opportunities for Engagement
The Board of Education encourages the public to review draft updates to Policy IOD and share feedback by May 6. Policy IOD is about educating students who are learning English. The amendments:

Rename the policy to Policy IOD, Emergent Multilingual Learners.

Encourage a positive focus by seeing students as already having valuable language skills while becoming multilingual.
