Superintendent Search Guided By Montgomery County Voices

The Board of Education’s review of applications for the next MCPS superintendent of schools is proceeding. To protect candidates’ right to privacy during the search process, details about individuals who have applied or are being considered for the position will not be shared.

As the Board considers applicants, they are guided by input from the local community shared in focus groups, community forums, and in an online survey. The result of these engagement opportunities is a shared understanding of the needs, priorities, and aspirations of our community.

Three main themes around the desired characteristics of of MCPS’ next leader emerged:

  • Transparency and Accountability

  • Honesty, Integrity, and Trustworthy

  • Communication and Engagement

Four areas of priority for the new superintendent’s work were also identified:

  • Student Academic Achievement and Equality of Access to Programs and Resources

  • Safety and Security

  • Well-being of Staff and Students

  • Recruitment and Retention

The Board will continue to review applications and expects to begin first round interviews in the next few weeks.

The public is encouraged to stay informed and engaged by visiting the MCPS Superintendent Search webpage.

Board of Education Moves to New Meeting Space

The Board of Education will hold its May 23 business meeting in a newly renovated space at 15 W Gude Drive, Rockville. Earlier this year, work began to create an open, accessible area for public meetings.
