MCPS to Honor New Retirees at Reception on June 9 |
|
MCPS will honor its retiring employees during a reception on Tuesday, June 9. The event will be held from 5–7 p.m. at Seneca Valley High School in Germantown. Check-in will begin at 4:30 p.m.
To receive an invitation to this year’s reception, retiring employees must submit completed retirement forms to the Employee and Retiree Service Center (ERSC) no later than Friday, May 15. Retirement forms are available on the ERSC Retirement Planning webpage. Employees who submit retirement paperwork after May 15, will be honored at next year’s reception.
Retirees planning to attend the reception must RSVP using the invitation they will receive via email from the Greenvelope platform and must be submitted by Friday, May 29.

2026-2027 Calendar Options: Take the Survey! |

Help shape the 2026–2027 school calendar! With the Maryland State Board of Education requirement to finish school by June 19, 2027, MCPS needs your feedback on options, such as an earlier August start date, adjusted winter and/or spring breaks or using select religious observances as make-up days. Your input is vital.

Dozens Celebrated in NBCT Pinning Ceremony |
|
National Board Certified (NBC) educators were celebrated in a formal pinning ceremony last week at Richard Montgomery High School. See the photos. A total of 270 MCPS educators achieved National Board Certification; another 46 successfully maintained their certifications. MCPS has 1,205 NBC educators, the most in Maryland.

Mill Creek Towne Leadership Wins Nancy Walker Library Media Award |
|
Mill Creek Towne Elementary School Principal Robyn Shinn and Assistant Principal Rachel Cravath have won the Nancy C. Walker Award for Outstanding Support to a Library Media Program for the 2025–2026 school year. They were nominated by school media specialist Bonnie Hines. This award is presented annually by the Montgomery County Educational Media Staff Association (MCEMSA) to highlight the role of administrative leaders in supporting library media centers.

Pick the Winners in the Sustainability Poster Contest |
|
MCPS staff and students are invited to judge the Sustainability and Compliance Team’s 2026 Sustainability Poster Contest. The focus of the contest is to increase awareness and demonstrate the importance of environmental sustainability, energy conservation, waste reduction and responsible recycling through creative artwork. The finalists are divided into five categories:
- Grades Kindergarten-2
- Grades 3-5
- Grades 6-8
- Grades 9-12
- Digital
Online judging is open to all MCPS staff and students and will close at 5 p.m. on Monday, May 4. You must use your @mcpsmd.net account login to view and vote. Feel free to share the poll with your students and staff!

- Used Car, Computer Sale: 9–11 a.m. on Saturday, May 9 at Thomas Edison High School of Technology, 12501 Dalewood Drive in Silver Spring. The Montgomery County Students Automotive Trades Foundation (ATF) and Information Technology Foundation (ITF) will sell used cars and computers they have refurbished.
- Gaithersburg Book Festival: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, May 16 at Bohrer Park, 506 S. Frederick Avenue in Gaithersburg.
- Scholarships Available: The MCPS Retirees Association is awarding $1,500 scholarships to teachers and staff members to help defray the cost of course work in a recognized educational program for the summer or fall of 2026. Apply.
- Skilled in Communication and Community Engagement?: The Board of Education is looking for community leaders and professionals with expertise in communication and engagement to apply for its Advisory Committee. Learn more and apply by Friday, May 1.
- CPR/AED/First Aid Training for Staff: Available to all MCPS employees, free of charge. Trainings are offered throughout the year. See the list or email Peter Park.
