Community Notification: COVID-19 Case at Briggs Chaney Middle School
Dear Briggs Chaney Community,
This letter is to inform you that an individual who was last present at Briggs Chaney Middle School April 1, 2021, has tested positive for the coronavirus (COVID-19). Following Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) guidelines, we notified individuals who were known to have direct contact with this individual and have advised them to quarantine for 14 days. We know this is a difficult time and I am writing to provide additional information and alleviate any concerns you may have about your own health and safety.
I want to emphasize that no students were at risk of exposure during this time as schools are currently closed for spring break.
MCPS has worked closely with the Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) County health officials during this pandemic. Per current DHHS guidance, and based on our collaborative contact tracing process, unless notified directly, you do not need to be tested or quarantine as you were not identified as being in direct contact with a person who has tested positive for COVID-19. Direct contact is defined as:
Note: The definition of “close contact” does not include all other individuals on the same floor or in the same building as a positive individual, unless they also meet criteria (1) or (2).
As always, if you develop symptoms of COVID-19 such as fever, cough, and shortness of breath, or other COVID-19 symptoms, contact your healthcare provider immediately for advice.
As a reminder, here are the steps that we can all take to keep ourselves, families, and school community safe:
for additional information.
If you have additional questions related to COVID-19, you may contact County health officials at 240-777-1755 for additional information.
We appreciate your cooperation as we work to maintain a safe and healthy school environment.
Sincerely,
Shawaan T. Robinson
