UPDATE: Police Investigation Finds No Weapon and Determines There is No Ongoing Credible Threat
At 9:55 a.m., Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School administration received a call from a parent of a student who thought another student might be in possession of a gun. The student made this claim after witnessing a verbal altercation in a school hallway. The school initiated a lockdown at 9:59 a.m.
Montgomery County Police and personnel from the MCPS Department of School Security and Emergency Management were called and responded. The police initiated an investigation, including an interview with the student who made the report. The police determined there was no credible threat and no weapon was found. The school moved into a shelter-in-place at 10:55 a.m. and lifted it at 11:20 a.m., allowing the school to transition to lunch and prepare for dismissal beginning at noon.
