Message from the Board of Education on the Passing of Dr. Judith Docca
The Montgomery County Board of Education regrets the passing of Dr. Judith (Judy) Docca, a former Board member, who passed away Friday, August 9. Dr. Docca served Montgomery County Public Schools for 54 years as a teacher, administrator, and Board member. The loss of her deep commitment and passion for students as well as her advocacy for education and civil rights will be felt in the Montgomery County community for years to come.
Dr. Docca spent 38 years as a teacher and administrator with Montgomery County Public Schools. She began her career as a Spanish and French teacher, and later served as a human relations coordinator, assistant principal at Montgomery Blair High School, and principal at Argyle Middle School.
Dr. Docca was then elected to four terms on the Montgomery County Board of Education, representing District 1 from 2006-2022. During her time on the Board, Dr. Docca spent at least one year on each of the Board’s five committees, including serving as the Chair of both the communications and public engagement committee as well as the policy committee.
Dr. Docca was active in the Montgomery County NAACP, the Lincoln Park Historical Foundation and numerous educational associations. She played an important role in supporting Montgomery County's Head Start program and has been inducted into the County Human and Civil Rights Hall of Fame. This past June, she was awarded with the Living Legend Award during the Montgomery County Juneteenth Celebration. Recently, she was appointed to the Montgomery College Board of Trustees by Maryland Governor Wes Moore.
We are deeply saddened by Dr. Docca’s passing and offer our deepest condolences to Dr. Docca’s family.
