Jeffrey Sullivan, systemwide athletics director, is this year’s recipient of the prestigious Dr. Edward Shirley Award for Excellence in Educational Administration and Supervision.

This award, given by the Montgomery County Association of Administrators and Principals, recognizes outstanding administrators in Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) who demonstrate exemplary leadership and dedication to education. 

Throughout his tenure with MCPS, Sullivan has been committed to fostering student success and advancing athletic programs from creating equitable opportunities for all student-athletes to engaging the community to positively influencing students, coaches and administrators. 

He began his career as a physical education teacher at Paint Branch High School before serving as athletic director at Paint Branch and Clarksburg high schools. He joined the MCPS Athletics Unit in 2013 and was appointed systemwide athletics director in 2017.
