Ashley Kapp Named MCPS Rising Star Teacher of the Year
Ashley Kapp, third grade special education teacher at Brooke Grove Elementary School, is this year’s MCPS Rising Star Teacher of the Year. A first-year educator, Kapp teaches a class primarily composed of students diagnosed with autism.
A graduate of Richard Montgomery High School, Kapp is a dedicated collaborator who works closely with students, staff and parents. She incorporates dance, demonstrations and role-playing into her lessons to make learning more engaging. Her classroom is a warm and dynamic space designed to support students' diverse needs, and she maintains strong communication with parents through daily progress updates. Additionally, Kapp works closely with two paraeducators, fostering an environment where they effectively support and guide student learning.
The Rising Star Teacher Award honors a full-time prekindergarten/Head Start through Grade 12 teacher who is in their first, second or third year of teaching who demonstrates a passion for the success of all students, creatively engages students in learning and contributes to a strong, positive partnership among students, staff, parents and the community.
