Three Students Win National History Day Awards

Three Montgomery County Public Schools students were the top Maryland winners in the National History Day competition held at the University of Maryland, College Park, on June 13 through 17.

One of two winners of the Outstanding Maryland Prize was a project in the junior group documentary category presented by Adelaide Waldrop and Sarah Williams, both students at Eastern Middle School. Their topic was “Encountering the Electric Guitar: A Revolution in Popular Music.” Their teacher was Matthew Johnson.

Elaine LaCoss, a student at Poolesville High School, also won an Outstanding Maryland Prize for her senior historical paper, “Encounter and Exchange: Lacrosse.” Her teacher was George Sproveri.
