More than 200 Employees Receive Degrees through MCPS-University/College Partnership Programs

Academic Programs at Eight Colleges and Universities Focus on Career and Professional Development in High Need Areas

More than 200 staff members from Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) have received degrees or certification through partnership programs with local colleges and universities this year. The partnerships are developed collaboratively between MCPS and the institutions of higher learning to make it easier for employees to further their education in areas that align with the school system’s goals and priorities.

Administrators, teachers, and supporting services professionals have benefited from the opportunities to increases their skills in high need areas for the school system such as reading, mathematics, special education, English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), and administration and supervision. Programs result in bachelor’s or master’s degrees and professional certifications. The education leadership program at Bowie State University offers a doctoral degree. Partnership benefits to employees may include reduced tuition and fees, reduced book costs, job embedded training, partial tuition reimbursement, and convenient scheduling of classes.

NOTE: Graduates will be honored by the Board of Education at a reception at the Carver Educational Services Center in Rockville on Monday, June 25, at 5:30 p.m. and at the Board meeting that begins at 7:00 p.m.
