The Board of Education met yesterday [Wednesday, February 23] and, among other items, ratified agreements with two employee organizations, approved two administrative positions and approved further development of the system of shared accountability. The Board also voted positions on upcoming legislation in the Maryland General Assembly and approved the recognition of Women's History Month.

Negotiated Agreements with Employee Organizations

The Board and the leadership of the Montgomery County Association of Administrative and Supervisory Personnel (MCAASP) and the leadership of the Montgomery County Education Association (MCEA) joined in signing recently negotiated agreements between the Board and the employee organizations. The MCAASP agreement is for the period July 1, 2000 through June 30, 2003. The MCEA agreement affects the 2000-2001 school year.

Teacher Evaluation and Accountability

The Board voted to endorse the development of the plan for the system of shared accountability, including the new teacher evaluation system, that links student performance to a variety of administrative and instructional processes, including staff evaluations, professional development and resource allocations.

Personnel Appointments

The Board of Education approved the following administrative appointments:

Kathleen Lasinski, currently principal of Carderock Springs Elementary School, as director of school performance, Office of School Performance and Accountability.

John Matthews, currently fleet maintenance manager, Department of Transportation, as assistant director, Department of Transportation.

Items of Legislation

The Board approved positions on items of legislation pending before the Maryland General Assembly.

Women's History Month

The Board approved the observance in March of Women's History Month in Montgomery County Public Schools and recognized female students and staff for their hard work, vision and achievements.
