Harvard Business School Case Study Showcases MCBRE’s Impact on Education

The Montgomery County Business Roundtable for Education (MCBRE) announced today that the Harvard Business School has published a case study on the benefits MCBRE has brought to Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS), the 16th largest school district in the country.

“We are pleased and honored that MCBRE’s best-practices, methodologies and programmatic approaches have been highlighted by the Harvard Business School,” said Heather Schwager, Executive Director of MCBRE.

“MCBRE serves as a credible and trusted advisory group to our senior leadership team,” said Dr. Jerry D. Weast, superintendent of Montgomery County Public Schools. “They listen to our challenges and offer us sound advice on how to apply proven, business-like solutions that can work in education. In the last 10 years, MCPS’s enrollment increased more than 10%, while the population of students whose primary language is not English climbed more than 90%. At the same time, revenue is a problem, so leveraging best business practices to keep up with changes and constantly improve overall service to all students makes a lot of sense,” Weast added.

“We know these issues aren’t unique to MCPS,” added Schwager. “This is a growing trend across the country. It is our hope this case study builds momentum and capacity for similar partnerships in K-12 public education nationwide,” added Schwager.
