Second Annual MCPS Fair for Families Set for August 29 at Carver Center in Rockville

Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) will kick off the school year with its second annual Back-to-School Fair at the school system’s central office location in Rockville.

The event for MCPS families will take place on Saturday, August 29, from 11 a.m.–2 p.m. on the grounds of Carver Educational Services Center, 850 Hungerford Drive, Rockville.

Coordinated by the Office of Communications and Family Outreach, the fair will feature something for everyone—from information and resources for parents, to activities for children, to entertainment for all.

Some of the highlights include student and community performance groups, local celebrities, and vision and dental screenings. MCPS staff members will be available to answer questions and provide information about the Seven Keys to College Readiness, the curriculum and classroom instruction, consortia and magnet programs, and much more. A number of community and county organizations also will be present, including health and social services, public libraries, Montgomery College, College Savings Plans of Maryland, Montgomery County Council of PTAs, and the City of Rockville.

Items available for attendees to take home include books, school supplies, and school system resources. Drawings will be held for a number of donated prizes, including Dell Netbook computers, iPods, a Wii game system and Wii Fit, gift baskets, gift certificates, and more. Free snacks and drinks will be provided.

Limited parking will be available on the Montgomery College campus across Mannakee Street from the fair site. Free round-trip shuttle buses will run throughout the day between the fair site and Montgomery Blair, Gaithersburg, Richard Montgomery, Northwest, Springbrook, and Wheaton high schools.
