April 6 'Imagine Wootton..' Event to Celebrate Tolerance and Diversity

The Student Government Association at Thomas S. Wootton High School is sponsoring a special event called "Imagine Wootton." to celebrate tolerance and diversity. The day will begin with an assembly from 7:45 until 10:00 a.m. with student speakers and a video produced by Wootton students. During the afternoon, students will review themes of the morning presentation, discuss the issues, and examine their attitudes and behavior toward others. "Imagine Wootton." was planned by student leaders at the school following discussion of the tragedy in Littleton, Colorado last year and the role that feelings of isolation and rejection might play in such events. April 8 - Magruder National Honor Society Helps Habitat for Humanity

Col. Zadok Magruder High School's National Honor Society, in conjunction with Habitat for Humanity, will help build a house for a needy family in Rockville. Twenty students will spend the day on Saturday, April 8, assisting with carpentry, painting, and other tasks that will help complete the house. April 10 Eastern Middle School Character Education Essay Contest

All 125 eighth grade students in teacher Hilary Gates' five English classes at Eastern Middle School participated in the Character Education 2000 Initiative Essay Contest. The AFRO-American Newspapers, who sponsored the contest for eighth grade students in Baltimore City and five Maryland counties, will celebrate the students' work with a pizza party and awards ceremony at the school at noon on April 10. Students each selected a businessperson profiled in the AFRO-American and wrote a 250-word essay answering the question: "What is courage and how did the person you selected display courage on the journey to success and achievement?" Semifinalists in the contest will be announced on April 10th and will be invited to a ceremony at the Baltimore Zoo, where finalists will be presented with cash awards.
