MCPS Launches Fall Workshops for Parents

September 8, 2010
Montgomery County Public Schools’ Parent Academy is in session. This fall, parents can brush up on their algebra skills, get more familiar with Facebook and Twitter and learn how to help their children prepare for important exams.
The MCPS Parent Academy is offering an array of free workshops to help parents more effectively support and advocate for their children’s education. The workshops, taught by MCPS employees and outside experts, cover a wide range of topics.
In September, topics range from school bus safety and school nutrition to financing college education and learning basic computer skills. Later this fall, the Parent Academy will feature sessions on the Maryland State Assessment, reading strategies for middle school students and how parents of special education students can become more effective advocates for their children.
The workshops are free and usually run no longer than two hours. Free child care and interpretation services will be provided upon request, based on availability.
More than 30 sessions are scheduled at various schools and locations throughout the county this fall. To see the full schedule and details about each workshop, please visit the Parent Academy website. Parents can register online or by calling the Department of Family and Community Partnerships (DFCP) at (301) 279-3100.
