MCPS TV Receives Six Telly Awards, including Top Prize in Sports Category

Six programs created by MCPS Television received Telly awards honoring high quality productions addressing a range of topics, from the challenges of playing lacrosse to learning algebra with The Math Dude.

Boys and Girls Lacrosse, a recipient of the top prize in the sports programming category, explores the game and the demands it places on students.  Players strive to achieve on the field and in the classroom and must rely upon each other to manage both the athletic and academic challenges.

Other awards were for The Math Dude algebra instructional series, a documentary on the Japanese American experience during World War II, and feature stories on Poolesville High School’s magnet programs and the Montgomery County Fire Sciences Academy.

The Telly Awards honor the very best local, regional and cable television programs, the finest video and film productions, and work created for the Web.  It is one of the best known TV and film programming competitions, and draws more than 13,000 entries from all 50 states and five continents.  MCPS TV competes against powerhouses like Discovery Networks, Harpo Productions (Oprah Winfrey), ESPN and Fox Sports, and all judging is done by top TV and film production professionals.
