Newly Elected Board of Education Member To Be Sworn In Dec. 4

Newly elected member of the Board of Education, Rebecca Smondrowski (District 2), and two returning members of the Board, Christopher Barclay (District 4) and Philip Kauffman (At-large), will be sworn in during a ceremony tomorrow, December 4, 2012, at the Carver Educational Services Center, 850 Hungerford Drive in Rockville. The event will begin at 7 p.m.

Mrs. Smondrowski was elected to her first four-year term on the Board on November 6. She will replace current member of the Board Laura Berthiaume who did not seek reelection. Mr. Barclay, who currently serves as the Board of Education vice president, will begin his second four-year term on the Board. Mr. Kauffman also will begin his second term.

A program and reception following the swearing-in ceremony also will honor Ms. Berthiaume.

The election of new officers for the Board will take place during the Board of Education business meeting on December 11, 2012.
