Three MCPS Juniors Win $10,000 Scholarships in Essay Competition

Three MCPS students have been selected as winners in the 2013 Junior Achievement Essay competition.

Jonathan S. Rasch, a junior at Walt Whitman High School, won first place; Zubair A. Khan, a junior at Richard Montgomery High School, placed second; and Aditi Subramaniam, a junior at Montgomery Blair High School, earned third place. Additionally, Richard Montgomery High School won the Maryland award for having the most eligible applicants. As state finalists, each will receive a $10,000 scholarship. Richard Montgomery will receive a $6,000 grant.

The competition, coordinated by Junior Achievement of Greater Washington, asked high school students from Virginia, Maryland and Washington, D.C. to compete for scholarships by writing an essay in response to the following question: “Which will do more to improve life in the United States over the next decade, business entrepreneurs or social entrepreneurs? Why?”

The competition is sponsored by David M. Rubenstein, co-founder and co-CEO of The Carlyle Group, one of the world’s largest private equity firms.
