Board of Education to Meet Dec. 14 to Discuss and Adopt the 2016-2017 School Year Calendar
The Montgomery County Board of Education will meet on Monday, December 14, 2015, to discuss and adopt the 2016-2017 school year calendar. The Board was originally scheduled to adopt the calendar at its December 8 meeting, but deferred final approval to allow for more time to discuss the calendar and address concerns raised by the community. Interim Superintendent Larry Bowers has revised his recommendation for the 2016-2017 school year. He is now recommending that the school year begin on Monday, August 29, 2016, and end on June 16, 2017. To accommodate the September 12, 2016, professional day added by the Board of Education last month, students will now attend school on October 21, 2016, which previously had been scheduled as a non-instructional day.
The school calendar is based on 184 instructional days for students (four more than the minimum required by the state of Maryland) and 193 duty days for teachers. It was developed based on broad stakeholder feedback provided over several months.
The meeting will begin at 2:30 p.m. and will be broadcast live on the MCPS website and on MCPS TV (Comcast Channel 34).
The agenda, with related materials attached, can be found on the Board of Education’s BoardDocs site.
