Ms. Laura Sampedro (see photo at link below), a junior at Springbrook High School, was elected today with 79.5 percent of the vote as the next student member of the Board of Education. Her term will coincide with the 1999-2000 school year.

Of the 63,467 students registered to vote, 74.1 percent participated in the election and cast ballots. Ms. Sampedro was elected with 37,416 votes, or 79.5 percent of the votes.
