MCPS Seniors Earn More Than $350 Million in Scholarships
MCPS graduates from the Class of 2017 have earned $350.9 million in college scholarships to date—an increase of more than $7 million over last year. The total value of scholarships earned is expected to grow over the next few weeks as final data is gathered.
“I am so proud of our students who worked hard, performed at high levels and prepared themselves for the many new opportunities the future will hold,” said Superintendent Jack Smith. “Their success is a testament to the support and dedication from their parents, teachers, administrators and the entire Montgomery County community. I look forward to hearing about their continued success in higher education, the world of work, and as members of our society.”
The Class of 2017 has received many prestigious scholarships and awards for outstanding academic performance, community involvement and leadership. Ten graduates were awarded full-tuition scholarships from the Posse Foundation. In September, it was announced that 145 MCPS seniors were named National Merit semifinalists and, so far, 44 have been awarded scholarships, with one more round of recipients to be announced in July.
