Cornerstone Ceremony Marks Completion of Student-Built House

May 20, 2002
A Cornerstone Ceremony will mark the completion of a house built by students in the construction trades program at Thomas Edison High School of Technology in cooperation with the Montgomery County Students Construction Trades Foundation, Inc. The members of the foundation - leaders in the building and real estate field - have provided their expertise and guidance to the building project.

The ceremony will take place on Tuesday, May 21, at 6:30 p.m. at the house site, 13001 Connecticut Avenue (corner of Dean Road) in Silver Spring.

Building construction students at Edison did the masonry, carpentry, electricity, plumbing, heating and air conditioning, and landscaping for the house. Even the cornerstone was designed and made by the students. More than 150 students have been involved in the project.

This is the 31st house built by students in the construction program at Edison High School. Four of the student-built homes are located in the Connecticut Avenue Estates subdivision.
