New Publication to Assist Hispanic Parents

December 4, 2002
“Conquista tu Sueño/Aim High!” is a new publication in English and Spanish designed especially for parents of Hispanic students. It provides information about academic opportunities to improve success in elementary, middle and high school.

The booklet was introduced to the community at a press event at Highland Elementary School on December 3. Superintendent Jerry D. Weast, Board of Education Member Gabe Romero, and leaders in the Hispanic community were among the program participants.

“Conquista tu Sueño” is a collaborative project of the school system and members of the Hispanic community, who provided guidance in the planning and production of the booklet. The publication is among a number of efforts designed to assist parents in supporting their children’s development of strong academic skills and confidence as learners, preparation for challenging instruction at all grade levels, and awareness of opportunities for college acceptance, success and financial aid.

“Conquista tu Sueño” is one of several parent guides targeted to specific communities within the school system. “Aim High!,” produced in cooperation with the African American community, also is currently available. A similar publication for the Asian American community called “Working Together” will be available after the first of the year.

“Aim High!” and “Conquista tu Sueño” can be found at the web address below.
