Magruder Student Elected to Board of Education

Col. Zadok Magruder High School sophomore Sagar Sanghvi has been elected the new student member of the Board of Education for the 2003-2004 school year.

Sanghvi was chosen by 81.15 percent of the secondary students who cast ballots in the April 10 election conducted by the Montgomery County Region of the Maryland Association of Student Councils. The overall turnout of eligible voters was 77.7 percent (58,313 students).

Sanghvi will begin his one-year term as the 26th student member of the Board on July 1.

In the past three years, Sanghvi has held a number of county-wide student government leadership positions. He also has served as class president. He has been an active participant in student government since elementary school.

His opponent in the student Board member election, Jinny Jang, is a junior at Thomas S. Wootton High School. The current student member of the Board of Education is Mihyar Alnifaidy, a senior at Springbrook High School.
