A ceremony honoring the participants in the Conquista Tus Sueños Latino Family Empowerment Program will be held on Friday, June 13, from 6:30 until 9:00 p.m. in the cafeteria of the Carver Educational Services Center in Rockville.

The ceremony will include presentations by several of the participating families. Board of Education member Gabriel Romero will be among the speakers.

Conquista Tus Sueños is sponsored by the Montgomery County Public Schools Family and Community Partnerships Unit and the Division of ESOL/Bilingual Programs.

Approximately 100 Latino families from throughout Montgomery County participated in training sessions during the school year to gain a greater understanding of how to become more actively engaged in supporting the educational achievement of their children.

The sessions were conducted in Spanish by community leaders Fernando Cruz-Villalba and Carlos Devis. Families were provided with opportunities to learn about and practice skills in effective communication, problem solving, and educational leadership.
