Board of Education Hires Firm to Assist with Superintendent Search

August 26, 2021

The Montgomery County Board of Education has selected Hazard, Young, Attea & Associates (HYA) to assist in the national search for a new Superintendent of Schools.

HYA was chosen from among six search firms that responded to the Board’s Request for Proposals (RFP). The Board unanimously approved a contract agreement with HYA to provide professional consultant services for the superintendent search and selection process based on the proposal fee of $52,500, plus travel expenses, as appropriate, and other optional additional services as requested by the Board.

HYA is a national executive search firm used by many large school districts across the country and has a reputation of recruiting highly qualified executives for superintendent and other administrative positions. The firm demonstrated a comprehensive understanding of the recruiting process, including the importance of effective community engagement. HYA assisted with superintendent searches for MCPS in 1999, 2011 and 2015.

The Board will meet with HYA soon to develop a work plan for the search, including the nature and extent of community involvement and engagement, and the development of a superintendent search website to serve as a hub for information, important dates and milestones. The community will also receive regular updates from the district and the Board about the search.
