October 6, 2003
Students, families, and staff at Woodfield Elementary School will be joined by Board of Education President Patricia B. O’Neill, Superintendent Jerry D. Weast, County Executive Douglas Duncan, and representatives from the departments of Police and Fire and Rescue Services in observing Walk to School Day on Wednesday, October 8.

Walkers will gather at 8:15 a.m. at the Plantations Community Pool, 1 Rolling Fork Way, to make the short walk to the school at 24200 Woodfield Road in Gaithersburg. An assembly in the school gymnasium will follow from 9:15 until 9:30 a.m.

The Board of Education encouraged the observance of Walk to School Day in Montgomery County Public Schools during its September 23rd meeting, citing the importance of physical fitness and of attention to the safety of pedestrians, particularly student walkers. Schools throughout the county have organized events for Walk to School Day.
