Federal Grants to Enhance School & Community Safety

Superintendent Jerry D. Weast and Board of Education President Patricia B. O’Neill will announce a $626,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Education to Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) at a press conference on November 6 at 11 a.m. at Richard Montgomery High School. The grant is targeted for expanded communication regarding emergency response procedures. The ongoing collaborative partnership between MCPS and other local agencies is a key component of the activities outlined in the grant proposal.

County Executive Douglas M. Duncan and Acting Chief of Police William O’Toole will unveil a million dollar, federally-funded police command bus that will be available for emergency situations throughout the county. Tours of the vehicle will be available to news media.
