Board of Education Makes Amendment to 2022-2023 School Year Calendar, and Discusses 2023-2024 School Year Calendar; Budget Priorities for the Development of the Fiscal Year 2024 Operating Budget; and College, Career and Community Readiness and Graduation Preparation; and Approves Annual Legislative Priorities

The Montgomery County Board of Education (Board) held a business meeting on Tuesday, October 25, 2022. During the meeting, the Board amended the 2022-2023 school year calendar and discussed the 2023-2024 school year calendar; budget priorities for the development of the fiscal year 2024 operating budget; and college, career and community readiness and graduation preparation; and approved their 2023 Annual Legislative Priorities.

Amendment to the 2022-2023 School Year Calendar

The Board voted to amend the 2022-2023 traditional and innovative school year calendars to make Thursday, December 29 and Friday, December 30, 2022, as well as Wednesday, April 5 and Thursday, April 6, 2023, systemwide closure days for Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS).

2023-2024 School Year Calendar

MCPS staff presented an initial range of scenarios to begin the Board’s discussion about the 2023–2024 instructional school year calendar. Following the discussion, MCPS staff will prepare the scenarios that the Board would like to put forward for public comment. The identified draft scenarios of the 2023–2024 school year calendar then will be available for public comment and feedback. The Board is expected to vote on the 2023–2024 school year calendar at its December 6, 2022, business meeting.

About the Board of Education

The Board is the official educational policymaking body in the county. The Board is responsible for the direction and operation of the public school system. The Board consists of seven county residents elected by voters for a four-year term and a student elected by secondary school students for a one-year term.
