Sherwood High School Holds Youth Health Summit

April 16, 2004
Sherwood High School will hold the Sherwood Community Youth Summit on Thursday, April 22, at the school. The event is being held in honor of Sarah Siskin, a 2002 graduate of Sherwood who struggled with eating disorders throughout high school and died the year after her graduation. Siskin's parents have been active participants in organizing the summit.

The youth summit will take place during the school day (approximately 8:30 until 11:00 a.m.) and will focus on issues such as peer and family relationships, tolerance for differences, eating disorders, depression, and substance abuse, with the goal of helping students gain the best mental and physical health possible.

The summit committee comprised Sherwood students, staff, and community members. Speakers will include health specialists from the community, local universities, and the National Institutes of Health, as well as representatives from police and fire departments. The summit was funded by the Consumer Health Foundation through the Family Services Agency.
