Elevated Levels of Lead in Water Found in 9 Schools

May 20, 2004
Elevated levels of lead were found in some water sample results for nine schools – East Silver Spring, Garrett Park, Glen Haven at Grosvenor Center, Montgomery Knolls, New Hampshire Estates, Poolesville, Summit Hall, Twinbrook, and Washington Grove elementary schools – according to results released today [Thursday, May 20].

Elevated levels of lead – exceeding the standard of no more than 20 parts per billion (ppb) – have been found in some samples among all of the 23 schools tested, thus far. The high samples were found among remote sites (such as sink faucets) and not designated drinking water sources. Schools continue to flush all designated drinking water sources. The current results for the latest nine schools are at right.

The results are being analyzed to identify long term solutions. Results for all schools tested are available on the web at the link below.
