Whitman Stadium to be Named for Principal Marco

The stadium at Walt Whitman High School will be named in honor of Dr. Jerry Marco, principal of the school since 1975, who retired earlier this year. The naming ceremony will take place at halftime during the Homecoming football game on Friday, October 1, at approximately 7:30 p.m. County Executive Douglas Duncan will read a proclamation at that time honoring Dr. Marco for his 42 years of service and numerous accomplishments in Montgomery County Public Schools.

Dr. Marco also will be recognized at a special ceremony on Sunday, October 3, from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m., in the Walt Whitman High School auditorium. Speakers will include Dr. Jerry D. Weast, superintendent of schools; Patricia B. O'Neill, vice president of the Board of Education; Howard Denis, member of the County Council; Dan Shea, principal of Quince Orchard High School, and Dr. Marco.
