Officials Issue Traffic Safety Letter to Families

The importance of community awareness of good driver and pedestrian safety practices is the focus of a letter sent recently to students, parents, and staff in Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS). The letter is one way county officials are bringing attention to safety issues during Pedestrian Safety Month in October.

The letter was co-signed by Dr. Jerry D. Weast, superintendent of schools; Sharon W. Cox, president of the Board of Education; Douglas M. Duncan, county executive; and J. Thomas Manger, chief of the Department of Police.

An important topic covered in the letter is the critical role of both parents and teachers in communicating safe behaviors. The letter also asks students to heed six guidelines concerning road safety.
