10,000 Students to Attend Concerts at Strathmore Center

December 6, 2004
Dr. Jerry D. Weast, superintendent of schools, and Eliot Pfanstiehl, president and CEO of Strathmore, have led a partnership effort to provide nearly 10,000 Grade 2 students from throughout Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) with the opportunity to attend an interactive concert performed by the National Philharmonic. The series of six concerts on December 7, 8, and 9 at 10:45 a.m. and 12:05 p.m. will be the first public performances at the new Music Center at Strathmore, 5301 Tuckerman Lane in North Bethesda.

Students have been preparing for the concerts in their music classes at their schools across the county, using teaching materials designed by the National Philharmonic in conjunction with MCPS. The students will participate in one musical selection by singing and performing movements as the orchestra plays.

Three award-winning student musicians will be featured performers: Gregory Jukes, an eleventh grade student at Montgomery Blair High School, Michelle Gajewski, an eleventh grade student at Richard Montgomery High School, and Gina Mouser, a tenth grade student at Connelly School of the Holy Child.

Education reporters are encouraged to attend the 10:45 a.m. performance on December 7. Specific information about arrival time, equipment requirements, and parking are available in the attached media advisory.
