Walter Johnson HS Wins It's Academic Superbowl

Walter Johnson High School is the winner of the It's Academic Superbowl for the 2004-2005 school year. The superbowl competition tests the knowledge of regional winners from high schools from the Washington area, Baltimore area, and Virginia.

The championship match against Centennial High School in Ellicott City, Maryland, and Robert E. Lee High School in Staunton, Virginia, was taped several weeks ago and aired on Saturday, June 25, on WRC, Channel 4.

It's Academic has been hosted by Mac McGarry for 44 years. This is the 34th year of the superbowl championship.

The coach of the winning team is Mark Whipple, a physics teacher at Walter Johnson High School.

In the championship game for the Washington-area title, Walter Johnson competed against two other Montgomery County Public Schools high schools, James Hubert Blake and Richard Montgomery. This victory was the first Washington-area win for Walter Johnson since 1971.
