Presidents of the University of Maryland Baltimore County and Montgomery College Join with MCPS in Announcing New Program

Dr. Jerry D. Weast, superintendent of schools, and Mrs. Patricia B. O'Neill, president of the Board of Education, will join with Dr. Freeman A. Hrabowski, president of the University of Maryland Baltimore County, and Dr. Charlene R. Nunley, president of Montgomery College, to announce the formation of the new Institute for Global and Cultural Studies (IGCS) at Wheaton High School. The press conference will take place in the media center of Wheaton High School on Monday, December 5, at noon.

The IGCS, designed to connect students to college in new and innovative ways, will particularly benefit students whose families are new to the college application process and experience. Students will have the opportunity to spend time on college campuses and to take up to 15 credits of college-level courses taught by college and university professors at the Wheaton campus.

This addition to the specialized academy programs currently available at Wheaton High School is open to students who live in the DownCounty Consortium area. The program will open in the fall of 2006. Application information is currently being provided to prospective students.
