Construction Projects Face Possible Delays

January 24, 2006
Potential delays in school construction projects have been identified in a report to the Board of Education on the effect of insufficient funding for projects currently scheduled in FY 2007-2012 Capital Improvement Program (CIP).

The impact on individual schools is specifically identified in the report from Dr. Jerry D. Weast, superintendent of schools. The list is extensive. The affected projects include school additions, modernizations, and elementary gyms, among others. School principals are sharing this information with their PTA presidents, parents, staff, and members of their school community and other constituencies.

The Board of Education had requested full funding for the six-year CIP, based on the superintendent’s recommendations, and the Board requested that all of the projects be completed on time, including many that had been delayed previously. The approval of the necessary funds to avoid the threatened delays now rests with the members of the County Council.
