Quince Orchard High School won the Best of the Web Award as the best public high school Web site in Montgomery County on April 25 during the second annual Best of the Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) Web Awards ceremony.

The site, www.qohs.org, is managed by computer science teacher Jason Leveille and a team of Web development and design students.

The annual Best of the Web Awards recognize MCPS Web sites that model best practices in Web communications. The school system’s more than 800 webmasters nominated the finalists and voted for the winners—their peers. The MCPS Web is composed of 200 school Web sites and hundreds of office and department sites. In March, the MCPS Web had more than 15 million page views and 1.5 million PDF downloads from more than 900,000 visitors.

www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/departments/materials/, webmasters Cecilia Scott, Dawn Geisler, Paul McCabe

• Best Special Project or Initiative Web Site: Social Studies, www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/curriculum/socialstd/, webmaster Robert Ferrante, social studies teacher

Three staffers and one parent volunteer also were recognized for their contributions to the MCPS web. One Web Services Team member, Elaine Keagle, was recognized as a Web Pioneer for her technical leadership in developing the site since its inception in 1995.
