Richard Montgomery High School Team Wins National
Academic Quiz Tournament Championship

Richard Montgomery High School won the National Academic Quiz Tournament High School National Championship, held in Chicago the weekend of June 3.

The Richard Montgomery team triumphed over a field of 128 qualifying teams to take the national title. Championship team members are seniors Chris Ray and Chris Higgins, sophomore Jeffrey Siegel and freshman Keith Jamieson. The team is coached by Richard Montgomery English teacher Daniel McKenna.

“We’re very proud of this outstanding team and the excellence they have displayed in academic knowledge competitions, both in the region and at the national level,” Superintendent Jerry D. Weast said.

The national victory came two weeks after the Richard Montgomery team won its first ever NBC-4 It's Academic Superbowl Championship. In that event, Walter Johnson HS and Walt Whitman both placed in the top 20 in a field of 128.

As national champions, the Richard Montgomery High School team now moves on to represent the United States at a world quiz event against teams from Japan and South Korea in Tokyo in August.
