Forums to Gather Community Feedback Scheduled for September 20 and October 11, 2007

Citizens Encouraged to Sign Up to Provide Their Input

The Montgomery County Board of Education invites parents, staff, students, and other community members to give their input on important issues affecting Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) at two community forums scheduled for this fall. The information shared at the forums will be used to help update and revise the school system’s Strategic Plan, Our Call to Action: Pursuit of Excellence and to assist in setting priorities for the Fiscal Year 2009 Operating Budget.

Participants will have an opportunity to share their thoughts about aspects of MCPS that are working well and those areas needing improvement. Individuals or group representatives may sign up to schedule a time to speak by calling the Board of Education office at 301-279-3617. Each participant will be allotted three minutes to speak.

This is the fourth year that the Board of Education has sponsored public forums to seek community input on the strategic planning and issues affecting MCPS.

The forums this year are scheduled as follows:

· Thursday, September 20, 2007, 7-9:30 p.m. Quince Orchard High School
· Thursday, October 11, 2007, 7-9:30 p.m. Wheaton High School

Foreign language interpreters will be available in Spanish, Chinese, Korean, Vietnamese, and French. Sign language interpretation will be provided upon request by calling 301-517-5539 or 5582 (Voice/TTY). Child care also will be available.

To sign up to speak at the September 20 forum, call the Board of Education office at 301-279-3617. Sign-up for the October 11 forum begins three weeks before the date of the forum.
